2009-10 Women's Basketball Schedule
BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s College 2009-10 women’s basketball schedule, released today by head coach Frank P. Carbone, features trips to six different states, including California, and a game at played at the Izod Center prior to a New Jersey Nets game.Coach Carbone hopes to improve upon their 11-15 record opening the season at home hosting Yeshiva University (Nov. 17) in a Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference matchup. This season’s home slate features tough opposition in Brooklyn College (Dec. 8), Keystone College (Jan. 9), York College (Jan. 23), Staten Island (Jan. 26) and Briarcliffe (Feb. 10) who each handed the Lady Bears big losses last season. The East vs. West doubleheader with the men against cross-campus rival St. Joseph’s College-Long Island (Dec. 12) highlights the home slate. The Lady Bears upended the Eagles in Patchogue, NY last season when they resumed the friendly sibling rivalry after nearly a 10 year hiatus.
In addition to the East vs. West game, St. Joseph’s will host doubleheaders against Keystone College (Jan. 9), Southern Maine CC (Jan. 18) and Albany Pharmacy (Feb. 6) to conclude conference play. The Lady Bears will play their home games at Brooklyn Technical High School, continuing the partnership started last season.
The featured game of the season will be a showdown with New Jersey City University (Dec. 28) at the Izod Center (East Rutherford, NJ) before the New Jersey Nets square off against the Oklahoma City Thunder. This will be the fourth time the Lady Bears will play on the NBA court.
St. Joseph’s will make several out-of-state trips beginning with Chambersburg, PA for the Wilson College Tip-Off Tournament (Nov. 21-22) and then to Morristown, NJ the following weekend for the College of St. Elizabeth Thanksgiving Tournament (Nov. 27-28). The Lady Bears will kick off the new year on the west coast in California at the Whittier College Poets’ Classic (Jan. 2-3). To wrap up the regular season, St. Joseph’s heads south to Virginia to face Christendom (Feb. 13) and Apprentice (Feb. 14) for their final tune-up heading into the post-season.
After a disappointing loss in last year’s HVWAC championship game to St. Elizabeth’s, St. Joseph’s looks to capture their fourth HVWAC title at the conference tournament hosted by New Rochelle (Feb. 20-21). The Lady Bears will also vie for a bid for their seventh appearance in the USCAA National Tournament hosted by Penn-State-Fayette (Mar. 3-6).
