2009-10 Men's Basketball Schedule
BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph’s College men’s basketball team will face five new opponents including a matchup against Division I New Jersey Institute of Technology and make road trips to New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maine, in the 2009-10 schedule released today by head coach Joseph Cocozello. The Bears have a tough first quarter to start the season as they look to improve their 12-15 record, opening on the road against NJIT (Nov. 16). This will be the first game against a Division I opponent by any team in St. Joseph’s College history. Other difficult road contests include New Jersey City (Nov. 30), Rutgers-Camden (Dec. 7) and Mount Saint Vincent (Feb. 12). The Bears will also travel to the Widener University (PA) Tournament (Nov. 20-21) and the New England University (ME) Tournament (Jan. 2-3).
St. Joseph’s opens their home slate of nine games against Philadelphia Biblical University (Nov. 18). The Bears will play at Brooklyn Technical High School, where they started calling home last season. Highlighting the home slate is an East vs. West matchup against cross-campus rival, St. Joseph’s-Long Island (Dec. 12) as the feature of a doubleheader with the women. The Bears look to even the score after losing on the road to the eventual Skyline champions in the friendly sibling rivalry that resumed last season after nearly a 10 year hiatus.
In addition to St. Joseph’s-Long Island, Brooklyn will host doubleheaders against Keystone College (Jan. 9), Southern Maine CC (Jan. 18) and Albany Pharmacy (Feb. 6).
The early tough schedule will prepare the Bears for their Hudson Valley conference schedule that begins on the road against Vaughn (Jan. 13) and will look to avenge the loss at last year’s HVMAC championship game against Berkeley (Jan. 23). St. Joseph’s will finish their conference slate over a three-and-a-half week stretch concluding with the Albany Pharmacy (Feb. 6) doubleheader. The Bears have their eyes set on capturing their second Hudson Valley conference title after a disappointing loss to end last season.
Albany Pharmacy will host this year’s HVWAC tournament (Feb. 20-21) and Penn State-Fayette will host the USCAA national tournament (Mar. 3-6).
