Losche Introduced as New Head Baseball Coach
9/1/2009

BROOKLYN, NY – Athletic Director, Frank P. Carbone, is pleased to announce the hiring of Scott Losche as the new head coach for the St. Joseph’s College baseball team. Losche replaces John Torres who started the program two years ago but left the school this past summer to pursue other career interests related to baseball.
“Coach Torres did a tremendous job in laying the foundation and setting the course for our baseball program and was an asset to St. Joseph’s, especially in the realm of recruiting; we are all sad to see him leave,” Carbone commented, “however, we are very fortunate to have found an outstanding successor in Coach Losche, who we are quite confident will only further develop what Coach Torres has started.”
The baseball team won five games in their first season and improved their win total to 12 in 2009.
Losche, 34, has an impressive resume in the CUNY Athletic Conference. In his first season as head coach of his alma mater Baruch, he became the youngest coach in conference history to win Coach of the Year honors at the age of 25. In his second season in 2001, he led the Bearcats to their first ever CUNY title making him the youngest head coach to win a CUNY championship, which earned him back-to-back coach of the year honors. Two players he coached at Baruch signed professional baseball contracts. As a player for Bearcats, Losche had a .395 career batting average and was a three-time CUNY Conference All-Star as a pitcher and position player. He was inducted to the Baruch Hall of Fame in 2007.
Losche returned to the CUNY finals again in 2007 with City College of New York in his third year coaching the Beavers. The 2007 squad finished number one in the NCAA in batting average (.372) and finished in the top 10 in six major offensive categories. The team featured two All-Americans and set a CUNY record boasting seven first-team CUNY Conference All-Stars.
Bobby Glennerster, Jr., who joined the Bears last season, will remain as assistant coach joining Losche’s staff. Losche brings aboard Jerry Sidman and Jack Hans as assistant coaches. Sidman was a standout centerfielder at John Jay College and was Losche’s assistant at both Baruch and CCNY. Hans spent 11 years as an assistant at CCNY from 1987-1994 and was Losche’s assistant from 2005-2007. He also spent a year as an assistant with Baruch in 2003.
